How chatviz works, how to export a chat, and what the evidence terms mean.
Getting started
Every new account starts with 20 free credits and no credit card. That is enough for a first real case.
Import a chat yourself
Export the conversation from the app (see below), then drop the file on the Import page. You get a quote before anything is charged.
Or request it from a client
Create an upload request and send the link. Your client uploads the export from their phone or computer; no account needed. The file lands in your workspace ready to import.
Try the sample case first
The sample case on your Chats page is a real WhatsApp export processed end-to-end. It is free and does not use your credits.
What a credit buys
Credits cover parsing, media hashing, voice-note transcription and the timestamp. Text-only chats cost a few credits; hours of voice notes cost more. The exact rates are on the billing page. See credit rates
How to export a chat
Export from the app on your phone, keep media included, then upload the file it produces. Nothing is changed or deleted on your phone.
- Choose “Include media” (or “Attach media”) when the app asks. Voice notes, photos and videos are only in the export if you do.
- Large exports can take a few minutes to produce. Wait for the sharing menu before you leave the app.
Glossary
- Manifest hash
- The SHA-256 fingerprint of manifest.json, which itself lists the SHA-256 of every file in the export (archive, media, transcripts, rendered outputs). If any byte changes, the hash changes. Anyone can recompute it to check the bundle is intact.
- RFC 3161 timestamp
- A signed time-stamp token issued by an independent time-stamping authority over the manifest hash. It proves the manifest, and therefore every file it lists, existed in this exact form at that time. We do not certify who wrote a message, only that the export has not changed since we received it.
- Canonical JSON
- The machine-readable transcript (chat.json) written with sorted keys and fixed formatting so the same conversation always produces the same bytes, and therefore the same hash.
- Retention
- How long we keep the original upload and the generated outputs. You choose it per import and can change it on the chat page; when it expires the files are deleted from our storage. Download the bundle before then.
- Credits
- The prepaid unit of work. Each import is quoted in credits before you confirm. Failed imports are refunded automatically.
- Share links
- Read-only links to a finished chat. They expire, can require a passcode, optionally allow downloads, and can be revoked at any time from the chat page.
- Team
- Invite colleagues from the Team page. Members work in your workspace and use its credits; only the workspace owner buys credits.
